Fifth graders rotated through four stations, all explorations of matter, our science unit. These included making bouncy balls, feeling "Whatzit", observing and eating a root beer float, and creating a lava lamp.
Fifth graders rotated through four stations, all explorations of matter, our science unit. These included making bouncy balls, feeling "Whatzit", observing and eating a root beer float, and creating a lava lamp. Our class couldn't help but have fun with all of the great games planned by Mrs. Hoffman and Mrs. Thielen. Have you ever tried to shake ping pong balls out of a box strapped to your back? Or moved them from one bowl to another with a spoon? Or flipped pencils into a glass by bouncing them first on a desk? Also, students created handprint art. Thank you, Mrs. Roudabush, Mrs. Scanlan, Mrs. Sanoval, and Mrs. Jensen, for helping out, too! Our class is getting to know some interesting people, like John Lennon, Michael Jackson, Laura Ingalls Wilder, Gabby Douglas, and more. We've heard speeches shared in first person, some including google slideshows with video clips. Props and costumes make these presentations fun as well. Classmates write compliments on notecards, and some compliments are also shared aloud. How do rice (solids), water (liquids), and air (gases) respond in various situations? What are their properties? How are they alike and different? Students discovered some of these properties and made some new connections about matter. Remember the good old days, in younger years, when you wake up in the morning and just start playing? OMS students had this opportunity today to just play... creatively, imaginatively, cooperatively, and inquisitively. Board games, dress-up clothes, toys, tents, and all kinds of fun! And no electronic devices! They didn't even miss them! Students have been enthusiastically sharing their winter break personal narratives and their editorials. Classmates take notes on notecards of specific, positive feedback. After each essay is shared, compliments are also given aloud. It has been thought-provoking to have differing points of views shared, one after another. King George III's point of view, colonists' point of view, why schools should have uniforms, why they should not, etc. |
