Who is your favorite tall tale character? Davy Crockett? Pecos Bill? Johnny Appleseed? Well, you might have a new favorite soon after you read the tall tales written by our class. These tales include characters from the 17 and 1800's, settings in the western and southern parts of the USA, and exaggerations, but of course, every word of every tale is every bit true. (Wink, wink) Also, you will find out what these characters look like as portrayed by 5-5's own illustrators. Watch for these at the upcoming Open House.
Bones, and muscles, and nerves, oh my! Our class continues to study how the body works. This week, we tested whether our nervous systems sends signals fastest by sight, sound, or touch. We also observed pupils dilating and our eyes blinking as a reflex.
So far in our study of the Human Body in science, we explored how we move and the affects of our movements on our bodies. Then we examined various joint models, solved riddles relating to our bone names, and played Simon Says. Last week and today, our class created models of a limb. Bones, muscles, ligaments, and tendons were assembled by the students in cooperative groups by using a variety of supplies. They shared these with the class and will be bringing the models home to share with you! Enjoy! Please also check out the Photos tab on the website to see more model limbs!
