Today was a lot of fun! A big thanks goes to Mrs. Lindberg and Mrs. Roudabush for planning a great party! We also enjoyed having some other moms help out... Mrs. Hill, Mrs. Neill, Mrs. Schaner, and Mrs. Hager. Have you heard about the dirty diapers (candy bars), monster goo (baby food), marbles in ice water and pennies in dirt with live worms? Happy Halloween, everyone! Be sure to check out more pictures on the Photos tab.

Happy Halloween, everyone! Be sure to check out more pictures on the Photos tab. Our class explored a trunk filled with clothing, tools, and needed items for soldiers during the late 1700's. After taking turns trying on and showing off the items, they took turns wearing them. Cantigny also provided a binder of pictures and information about each item. This photo was taken just before the class found out that the letter from the PTA was not a real letter. How could these fifth grade teachers do this to us!? Well, we knew that to understand the revolutionary times from a colonist's point of view was to feel the way colonists felt. Colonists felts strongly that they were not being treated in a fair way. This day, fifth graders at OMS got just a taste of this unfair treatment, and we teachers hope that the experience has set the stage for an exciting study ahead. Our class earned a reward of their choice for filling up the cotton ball jar. These cotton balls are earned for quiet transitions in the hallway and exceptionally focused work times in the class. We set up several small and one large tent It was fun to transform our classroom into a campground and try out the various tents with friends. Our class went back in time to 1776 and met personas who explained about their life, their ill feelings toward the British (except for one, above, who was British), and their daily challenges. This experience was the beginning of an adventure through the revolutionary time period which will continue for our class throughout this school year. A rainy morning allowed our class some indoor recess time in our own classroom. It was great to see all of the ways our class discovered they could have a little fun. Aside from this, our class continued to work on deepening our understanding of books through discussions. We experimented during reading time with having a large group conversation. This was student-led and facilitated. We also had a fishbowl conversation and observed and discussed ways our class could improve our literacy conversations even more. |
