It was a beautiful day in the neighborhood on Halloween this year! Great costumes! Great fun! And a great party, thanks to Mrs. DeRosa, Mrs. Bell, and Mrs. Stannis who helped plan the activities. Mr. Bell, Mrs. Jansen, Mrs. Spiczka, and Mrs Fischer also helped out! We did crafts stations, a scavenger hunt, and some games.

Mr. Bell, Mrs. Jansen, Mrs. Spiczka, and Mrs Fischer also helped out! We did crafts stations, a scavenger hunt, and some games. Finally, the day we've all been waiting for! 5-1 students met their buddies, completed a getting to know you activity sheet, and read a book together. Friday afternoons every other week, we will spend time with buddies. If you look close, you will see small pebbles inside the diamond-shaped shadow openings. Students started close to the ground and had to figure out how to keep the pebble inside the shape as they lifted them higher and higher... A sunny day meant a day spent outside for our class. Four times today students participated in a variety of activities. We traced the shadows cast by a large cone. In partners, students traced the shadow cast by a small screw. We observed and drew the landscape facing south of us and added in where the sun appeared in the sky. We measured in fists how high above the horizon the sun rose. By holding our hands in a diamond shaped-shadow opening, we tried to raise them up but keep a small stone in the center. Back inside, the class charted and graphed their data then drew some conclusions. Students place cotton balls in our class jar for quiet behavior during transitions in class and for quiet transitions in the hallway. The class brainstormed then voted for a campout lunch. Aside from eating lunch, the class enjoyed playing several different games and spending time together. An enthusiastic book club has loaded up their discussion poster with sticky notes for today's conversation! |
