5-1 students read books with their kindergarten buddies before winter break! It was an exciting day for kindergarteners after their visit, looking for the gingerbread man.
There were some persuasive discussions about the proposed freedom of colonists from Great Britain. There were impressive efforts in sharing perspectives and evidence to support one's opinions. Four Halloween stations included making slime, painting spooky trees with a sunset background, decorating little black pumpkins, and creating spooky modge podge lanterns. Thank you Mrs. Hineline, Mrs. Manner, Mrs. Tatum, Mr. Cassidy, and Mr. Meyer, for helping 5-1 students enjoy such a great party! Staff and students learn the origin of the name Olive-Mary Stitt. The School Board approved the name, and the Olive staff surprised Mary Stitt with the new name on her last day as principal of the school! Her legacy of kindness, learning, and curiosity lives on today! Mary has always wanted to do "what's best for kids." To get to know one another better, team members took turns acting out Halloween-themed words for one another! It was fun and funny! In the LMC this week, there were debates relating to space travel. Teams shared their research, ideas, and persuasive words relating to "Is it safe to travel in space?" and "Is space travel worth the money?" Rebuttal speakers took notes and shared ideas to further convince the class of their position on the topic. Writing is hard! But is is easier when we have a writing partner to read over our writing with us, tell us their favorite part, and ask us questions about what we write! What a privilege it is to teach twins! I especially love it as a mother of twins myself. It's so much fun to have so many sets of twins in the fifth grade this year! |
