Writing class is very active in 5-1. We have discussed and practiced several effective writing strategies such as focus, sensory details, dialogue, thought and feelings, rich verbs, figurative language, and more. Almost always, students compose on laptops. This week, several students experimented with a Google feature of voice typing. Students read their writing in front of the whole class or with partners. After sharing, specific, positive feedback is given by fellow students. Next week, our class will apply all the skills we have been working on to a personal narrative essay. This is one that all fifth graders will write. Hopefully, these will be completed and on display at Open House later this month.
