STEM stands for Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Led by OMS' Advanced Learning Facilitators, Mrs. Watanuki and Mrs. Jenkins, students were asked to create a carrier that could transport an "elf" down a zipline. After brainstorming and sketching in groups of two or three, students designed and created contraptions out of household supplies. After a first "run," groups were asked to make improvements and try again. Finally, they were asked to reflect on the experience. They did a great job, and it was a lot of fun! We hope students will consider extending their learning at home in similar ways. We might have some young engineers in the making!
