After about three months of no snow, winter seemed to be over. But just when we least expected it, there it was again! Our class had a lot of fun outside with Mr. Edstrom's class. Sometime Mrs. Tranter's class joins us, too, on Tuesday mornings. We often have LMC or other curricular activities, but when we do have a Tuesday morning recess, it's something special.
Led by Mrs. Kuzmanoff, the OMS fifth graders "rocked it" last night during their concert. Many people noted the progress made by the students since their last concert. With a strong brass section and representation of a wide variety of instruments, the sound was full and very enjoyable. Mrs. Kuzmanoff's positive and charismatic personality shone through as well. Well done! In connection with their science curriculum study of space topics, students researched and debated on two key questions during LMC. Those questions were the following: “Would it be safe to live somewhere other than Earth?” and “Should we spend money on space exploration?” They worked with a team to come up with arguments that would support their side of the debate. They found evidence from articles, websites and ebooks back up their claims. During the debate, each person played a role such as opening statement presenter, topic presenter, rebuttal speaker, closing speaker and more. In addition, to provide a visual background for the debates, the teams also collaborated to create a Thinglink (interactive presentation tool). |
