Mr. DeMarco really brings out the artistic talents of OMS students. These mini-houses are creative and adorable. Spring break is a wonderful time for creative art projects at home. If the weather is not favorable, consider using materials around your house to create something fun and wonderful! This is something the whole family can do, even adult family members!

Green shirts, hats, braids, and eyelashes. Campbell even gave out green necklaces to all of his classmates! Hopefully, everyone had a fun St. Patrick's Day weekend! Corned beef and cabbage, anyone? Groups of students weighed and tested materials before and after a chemical reaction... a balloon with baking soda in it, and a two-liter bottle with vinegar in it. The reaction was exciting, and for some, frightening. Can you guess if the weight of the matter changed after the chemical reaction? After a long afternoon of PARCC testing, our class created two rings of desks and played a Silent Ball tournament. After a few minutes, those who were still in rotated to one circle of desks, and those who were out rotated to the other circle. A judge for each circle helped decide who stayed in and who was out on missed catches. Students helped four different solids turn into liquids by adding heat. Olive oil and tea in the form of ice cubes just needed warm hands, but wax cubes and glycerine soap cubes needed coffee warmers. The investigative question was, "Does matter weigh the same amount, even if it changes states?" OMS fifth graders were "out on the town" Friday morning, exploring 22 local businesses, getting glimpses of where their talents and interests might take them in the future. Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped chaperone! The Metropolis offered student the opportunity to be on stage, back stage, and in the tech area. They participated in breakout sessions on acting, set design, and costume design. Each student in 5-1 was full of stories upon their return to school, and many of them created google slideshows about their adventures and shared them with our class. |
