On Miss Petro's last day, students each had a turn in small groups to play Apples to Apples with her. The rest of the class worked on a memory/advice page and drawings, which were put into a "book" for Miss Petro. It was a very happy day, but sad knowing that she will not be with us on a regular basis at school. She plans to join in for some end-of-year events.

Our class visited South (by bus) and Thomas (on foot) last week. The student-led tours and opportunities to ask questions helped our class feel more confident and eager for their middle school experience. This afternoon, fifth graders decorated the blacktop with all sorts of messages and drawings that encourage kindness. Some examples are, "It's cool to be kind. Smile. Think big. You are chill. Only kindness. You are beautiful. The sun will come out. Bee unique." Along with our kindergarten buddies, small groups taught their classmates about the people groups in the west in the 1800's These included the Chinese immigrants, Mexicanos, Nez Perce tribe, pioneers, Forty-Niners, and Mormons. This was done through creative dramatizations that included costumes, props, projected images, and acting.
Both the daytime and evening performances were a lot of fun! We obviously have some talented musicians at OMS! The latest craze... playing this game during indoor recess. Those contributing their cards to the "judge" enjoy using their most persuasive techniques! |
