Today's writing lesson started outside on the west playground as we spent time listening closely and recording sounds we heard. We wrote down both what we thought was causing the noise and also the sound word that we heard, which is called onomatopoeia. Whoosh, ku-kunk, chirp chirp, vrooommmm, bonk, slap, raarrr, etc. Then students wrote about a time when they heard a sound/sounds and how the sound made them feel.
